How do I Enroll My Child in 4-H, Start a New Club, or Volunteer?

This article walks you through the steps of becoming involved in 4-H.

Enrolling a Child in 4-H

Here in Washington County, we try to match your child up with a club that can best meet your location, youth's interests, and age. The only requirement is that your child must be between the ages of 5 and 18 years old, as of January 1st of the year you are enrolling them. The official enrollment deadline for 4-H is May 1st; however, you can get involved in 4-H throughout the year.

To start the club placement process, please click on the following link. It contains a short questionnaire in Microsoft Word format. You may return the form using the information at the bottom of the questionnaire.

Once this information is received, it will be sent to appropriate clubs and the leaders will contact you.

If you know of a 4-H member or club by personal contact and would like to join their club, please talk with them and then can walk you through the enrollment process.

Starting a New 4-H Club

It's wonderful that so many volunteers have shared their talents with a 4-H club by becoming the leader. It's not as hard as it may seem.

For more information on starting a club, please stop into the Washington County Extension office to talk with the staff as well as pick up a New Leader Packet, which outlines the Washington County 4-H program from the variety of 4-H activities (county, state, and national) and resources.

Becoming a 4-H Volunteer

Without volunteers, the 4-H program would not be so successful. Now is the time to share your talents with the 4-H program, and who knew there were so many ways to volunteer. The following are just a few: club leader, workshop presenter, project leader, community service, and many more! Since 4-H includes urban youth, rural youth, and all areas of life, anyone can be a volunteer.

If interested in being a volunteer, please stop into the Washington County Extension office (1718 Washington Street in Blair) or call (426-9455) to speak with the 4-H staff.
