Summer Tours in the Country

Dave Genoways - Hybrid Tea Roses 121 N 10th Street, Fort Calhoun Tuesday, July 8, 2008 7:00 p.m.

Directions: The Genoways residence is at 121 N 10th Street, Fort Calhoun. At the intersection of Highway 75 and Clay Street ( Sievers-Sprick Funeral home); go East to 10th Street, then 1 block South. The residence is on the corner of Adams and 10th Street (Across from Fort Calhoun Elementary School).

The Genoways’ landscape features over 200 roses. Hybrid tea roses are the predominant rose in the landscape but not the only ones This tour will be an excellent opportunity to learn about roses and their care and management. This is a repeat visit to the Genoways .

Mike and Chris Stork Farm - Meat Goats and Woody Florals 8597 County Road 7 Tuesday, July 15, 2008 7:00 p.m.

Directions: From Blair take Highway 91 West 12 miles to County Road 9, turn left or South on County Road 9 and go 2 miles South to County Road 26 (St Paul Lutheran Church), turn right or West on County Road 26 and go 1 mile west to County Road 7, turn left or South and go 1/4 mile; From Arlington go 4 miles North on County Road 9 (St Paul Lutheran Church), turn left or west onto County Road 26, go 1 mile west on County Road 26 to County Road 7, turn left or South onto County Road 7 and go 1/4 mile south to the farm. The residence address is 8597.

Mike and Chris Stork have added a meat goat enterprise to their dairy and farming operation. Meat goats are produced for their meat. Another unique enterprise is the growing and selling of woody florals. This tour stop will feature two unique alternative agriculture enterprises.

Beth and Scott Davis - Heirloom Tomatoes and Community Supported Agriculture 15718 County Road 21 Tuesday, July 22, 2008 7:00 p.m.

Directions: From Blair take Highway 75 North to County Road 14 (approximately 4 miles). Turn left or West onto County Road 14, go west approximately 5 miles to County Road 21, turn right or North onto County Road 21 and go 3/4 mile North. The residence address is 15718 .

Beth Davis has a strong interest in the preservation of heirloom tomatoes and their use in developing new varieties. She has 100 varieties of heirloom tomatoes planted on her acreage. Beth grows many different types of vegetables and uses a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) direct marketing approach for selling her produce. Beth follows organic practices in growing her many vegetables for CSA shareholders and for sale at Farmers Markets.
